pH

pH

pH is a term used to state the intensity of the acid or alkaline condition of a solution . pH expresses hydrogen-ion(H⁺) concentration. Natural waters normally have a pH in the range of 4-9. A water having a pH of 7 is considered neutral. If a water has a pH <7 then it is called an acid water & a water having a pH >7 is called basic water. pH is defined as the negative logarithm of the H⁺ concentration expressed in moles/L . as the H+ concentration in practice varies from 10⁰ – 10 ⁻¹⁴ , the value of pH varies from 0-14.
